Ostrich steak is a healthy and delicious alternative to your regular beef steak cuts. Ostriches have always been known as the largest birds on earth
but their meat has only become popular around the world 20 or 30 years ago. In South Africa we are blessed with many ostrich farms which is one of the reasons why we enjoy ostrich meat on a regular basis. The other however is the fact that the red meat of these big birds is very low in fat and calories and rich in iron and protein, making it a more balanced and healthier choice than pork or beef meat.

Cooking time: at least 5 minutes
Resting time: 0 minutes
Total time needed: at least 15 minutes
Grade of Difficulty: standard

The frying times are guidelines and are really depending on your cuts and the heat of your pan or grill. So it might be a good idea to try one steak first and have a look at the result. Than adjust your frying times accordingly.

This "Pizza Africana" recipe is a beautiful combination of my favorite pizza dough and sauce combined with a bunch of traditional African ingredients like okra, biltong and Southafrican boerewors.
