Sweet and sour chicken is a chinese dish that is very well known all over the world and very popular with some members of our household as well. In order to keep the
peace at home I had to come up with a recipe that would be very tasty and as close as possible to the real deal. I believe the recipe I am sharing with you on this page will be as satisfying to you as it was to us.

Ingredients for Sweet and Sour Chicken
2 chicken breasts, skinned, fillets cut of the bone and cut into bite sized chunks
Salt and pepper to spice the chicken
1 egg
5 tbsp. maize flour
One 440 gram / 15.5 oz can pineapple rings, drained, 100ml / 3.4 oz juice collected for later use, pineapple rings cut into slices
One green bell pepper, seeded and cut into bite sized pieces
One red bell pepper, seeded and cut into bite sized pieces
One medium to large onion, finely diced
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
8 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
4 tbsp. palm sugar (optional - use brown sugar instead)
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tbsp Maggi all purpose seasoning
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. tomato sauce
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
Directions
Sprinkle chicken pieces with salt and pepper on all sides and rub the seasoning into the meat
Add egg to a bowl and whisk it
Add 2 tbsp. maize flour to another bowl
Add 2 tbsp. oil to a large skillet / pan and heat it up on medium hot heat
Roll chicken pieces first in maize flour than in the egg before adding them to the pan
Saute chicken on all sides for about 8 minutes or till they are beginning to brown
Remove chicken from pan and keep warm in a bowl for the time being
Add onion to the skillet and saute in the remaining oil for 5 minutes, stirring them regularly
Add garlic, bell peppers and pineapple pieces and saute for another 5 minutes
After adding peppers to the pan add vinegar, palm sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Maggi, salt, tomato sauce and vegetable oil to a glass jar, close the lid and shake well for 30 seconds to blend all ingredients into a nice sauce
Add sauce to skillet, cover with lid, reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes
While sauce is simmering combine remaining maize flour with the pineapple juice using a whisk and add them to the sauce
Add chicken pieces to the pan, gently mix all ingredients well, cover again with the lid and let the chicken and sauce simmer for another 8 minutes
Take of the stove and serve Sweet and Sour Chicken with steamed Basmati rice or rice of your choice
