served with fresh lettuce, tomato, cucumber, braised or raw onions, sliced fresh jalapeno, sesame seeds and a sweet and spicy curry sauce which is a speciality from Germany. In Berlin and North Rhine Westfalia (NRW) the province I grew up with which is home to famous Football clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 amongst others "Curry Wurst" is what a "Burger" is to many Americans or "Fish and Chips" to the English an Portuguese. You get this Wurst 

(sausage) virtually at every Take Away and is consummated in large quantities usually on hot dogs or with a roll or french fries.  Curry sauce which is a tomato based spicy sauce not to be confused with sauces in Indian curries. There are a lot of recipes for this sauce available but I chose for this Quick hot dog recipe which is not only very tasty but will take you less than 5 minutes to prepare.

Ingredients

For the hot dogs

  • Olive oil for frying
  • Fresh hot dog rolls
  • Frankfurter or Vienna sausages (Proper German Bratwurst would be even tastier but would take longer to prepare as well and I will publish a recipe dealing with them and other traditional German sausages another time.
  • Tomato, diced
  • Cucumber, sliced
  • Lettuce leaves torn
  • Jalapeno peppers, deseeded and sliced fine
  • Braised or raw onions, sliced fine
  • Sesame seeds

For the "curry sauce"

  • 5 tbs. good tomato sauce
  • 1 tbs. good soy sauce or Maggie all purpose seasoning
  • 3 tsp. heaped of madras- or other hot curry powder
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp. maple syrup or brown sugar



Directions

  • Switch stove to hot setting and heat oil in a frying pan
  • Add sausages and raw onions and fry them for about 7 to 8 minutes, turning them a few times to prevent them from burning. Sausages should have taken color and onions be soft an golden brown
  • Remove from stove and place them together with the other ingredients on a plate
  • While sausages and onions are heating up in the pan 
  • place all ingredients for the curry sauce in a small bowl and mix it well. Taste and add more curry powder or cayenne pepper if you want it spicier.
  • Cut rolls and add sausages , curry sauce and condiments to serve your personal taste. 

I make this recipe on days where I am really hard pressed for time or feel a little drained. This basic recipe can be varied in many ways and will still taste awesome. So remove or add condiments as you see fit and enjoy.
