Milchreis is the German version of rice pudding. It's a sweet dessert that is popular in countries all over the world.
The dish is obviously a children's favorite but many adults that have a sweet tooth can't resist a bowl of rice pudding either. Some sources claim that the first rice pudding recipe originated in Persia. Today there can be countless recipes found all over the globe with many tasty variations within individual countries as well.
In Germany Milchreis is usually served with cinnamon and sugar, applesauce, hot cherries, strawberries or other fruits.

1 liter full cream milk or long life milk
1 heaped tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. sugar
1 vanilla pod, sliced open and vanilla paste scraped out
250 grams / 8.81 oz. round grain rice
